Biochemistry is the
study of chemical processes within and relating to living organisms. Medical
Biochemistry is concerned with the chemistry and metabolism in human health and
disease. It is imperative for the
medical students to understand the normal functioning of the body with respect
to the cellular chemical processes. Biochemistry is also closely
related to molecular biology, the study of the molecular mechanisms by which
genetic information translates into the processes of life. It is an interdisciplinary subject which
is a rapidly evolving science, also
concerned with biochemical investigations required for diagnosis of disease. The discipline
of Biochemistry has been established at the HITEC-IMS as a part of MBBS
curriculum. System of education will be modular with horizontal as well as
vertical integration with other medical sciences.
Guidelines
·Train the undergraduate as per the
University guidelines.
·Encourage the staff to update the
recent biochemical concepts and engage in research activities.
·Conduct journal club meetings,
clinical case discussion for faculty.
·Conduct seminars, lectures and
continuous medical education (CME) to impart the interdisciplinary nature of
biochemistry.
