Introduction
Forensic Medicine is the branch of medicine that applies principles and knowledge of medical sciences to problem in the field of law. It is also scientific investigation of the cause of injury and death in unexplained circumstances particularly when criminal activity is suspected.
The department is located on 2nd floor of Basic Sciences Block in HITEC-IMS for teaching 3rd year medical students and comprises of well-equipped: Forensic Museum with Skeleton, Models, Weapons and Illustration charts. Toxicology laboratory with various Poisons, Microscopes, Centrifuge machines, Autopsy and Examination sets.
Objectives
- To develop a well-organized, well equipped department with all modern teaching facilities to train medical students.
- To produce a doctor who is well informed about Medico-legal responsibilities during the practice of medicine.
- To make them acquire knowledge of the law in relation to medical practice, negligence and ethics.
- To create interest in research in relation to various Medico-legal problems.
