As part of the planned Phase II activities under the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, the Department of Community Medicine, HITEC-IMS in collaboration with the Department of Surgery, conducted breast cancer awareness sessions in the adjoining areas of Mohra Malhar, Taxila, on 14 October 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The activity brought together faculty members from the Department of Community Medicine, a Surgeon, Postgraduate Trainee (PGT) and a House Officer (HO) from the Department of Surgery, and students from MBBS, Dental, and Allied Health Sciences programmes. The initiative provided students with valuable practical exposure to community-based health education and preventive healthcare.

Dr. Asifa, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, discussed the risk factors associated with breast cancer and emphasized preventive measures and the importance of adopting health-conscious practices. Dr. Johum, Registrar, Department of Surgery, provided insights into breast cancer screening, diagnostic approaches, and available treatment modalities.
The sessions were followed by clinical breast examinations for community members who requested an assessment. Female residents of different age groups actively participated, raising questions and clarifying myths and concerns about breast cancer. The activity aimed to promote awareness, encourage early detection, and strengthen community engagement in preventive healthcare while providing students with valuable hands-on experience in community health education.
Through such outreach activities, the Department of Community Medicine, HITEC-IMS, continues to promote health awareness, strengthen community partnerships, and support efforts towards improving women’s health and well-being
