The Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Ethical Review Board (ERB) play pivotal roles in safeguarding the ethical integrity of research conducted in colleges. These oversight bodies are essential for ensuring that research involving human subjects adheres to ethical principles and regulatory standards. By thoroughly reviewing research protocols, the IRB and ERB help protect the rights, safety, and well-being of participants. Additionally, these boards contribute to upholding the reputation of academic institutions by ensuring that research is conducted with the highest ethical standards. Compliance with IRB and ERB guidelines not only meets legal and regulatory requirements but also instils trust in the research community, fostering a culture of responsible and ethical research within colleges. Overall, the IRB and ERB serve as crucial gatekeepers, promoting ethical conduct and maintaining the credibility of academic research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. IRB & ERB is responsible for reviewing research proposals and their acceptance, changing and rejecting with proper justification.
  2. Research and Development unit and faculty research centre ensure the fair implementation of the rules and regulations of IRB & ERB for the approval of research proposals at HITEC-IMS.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Faculty or students will submit a research proposal /short synopsis (template is provided on the website) to the Research cell through email at researchcell@hitec-ims.edu.pk.
  2. The Chairperson Research Review Board will approve the topic.
  3. After topic approval, faculty/students will submit a full synopsis/proposal (format given on the research cell website) to the research cell through email at researchcell@hitec-ims.edu.pk.
  4. The research proposal will be sent to IRB/ERB members for evaluation one week before the IRB/ERB meeting.
  5. The faculty/students IRB/ERB meeting will be held for approval/disapproval/changes in the project.
  6. The research supervisor will be involved in each step from synopsis submission to approval and will accompany the researcher in meetings.
  7. The board will keep a record of all proposals submitted for approval. The board will follow up on approved research.
