The orthopedic department forms a strong support of the HIT Medical & Dental College, Taxila. Since its inception, it has progressed by leaps and bounds to bring itself at par with other reputable teaching hospitals. The difficult task of establishing an orthopedic service was taken up by the then Assistant Professor Dr. Junaid in 2014 with little manpower and only basic equipment. This, however, did not deter him from providing necessary care to the entitled patients of the heavy industries.
The orthopedic team comprises of Dr. Kashif Khurshid Qureshi and Dr. Salman Habib Abbasi, both with extensive national and international experience. Dr. Kashif Khurshid Qureshi has done his fellowship in trauma and arthroscopy from Malaysia and joint replacement fellowship from Pakistan. He has a special interest in complicated trauma and pediatric fractures. Dr. Salman Habib Abbasi has also done his fellowship in arthroplasty from Pakistan and abroad. However, with continuous support from the administration, the new leadership is now able to provide up to date orthopedic services to the entitled patients as well as the civil population of Taxila and Wah Cantt. Besides emergency services being provided 24/7, the department boasts performing the latest and advanced procedures like minimally invasive surgery, advanced Trauma surgery for adults and children, Total Hip Replacement, and Total Knee Replacement which are performed regularly with excellent results.
TThe ever-increasing number of patients in the OPDs, the long waiting lists for elective surgeries, and a fair share of indoor patients show the faith and confidence of the patients in the care and compassion of their service providers. With a separate orthopedic ward and its side rooms, the competent staff of the department has catered for more than 5000 patients in the OPD & more than 400 surgeries only last year.
