The Department of Dermatology is a state-of-the-art department. In addition to teaching undergraduate Medical students, the department is also designed to provide the latest and modern treatment of skin diseases to employees of HIT as well as to the civilian population of Taxila and surrounding. The Department comprises of a 20 Bed ward with the provision of ITC and an outpatient department. It is equipped with the latest and modern equipment including cryotherapy appliances, an electrosurgery unit, a cabinet-type phototherapy unit, and an iontophoresis unit. There is a range of lasers available including IPL with Radio Frequency, Q switched Laser, and Erbium Glass laser for the treatment of excessive hairs, removal of pigmented lesions, removal of scars, and skin rejuvenation. Cosmetic procedures like Botox, peels, and filler are also in pipeline. Dermatosurgery and Diagnostic Dermatopathology services are also available. The Department is highly committed to seeing about 8000 patients and performing over 4000 different procedures per year. Efforts are being made to get the Department recognized for FCPS Part -II training.
The department is located on 2nd floor of Basic Sciences Block in HITEC-IMS for teaching 3rd year medical students and comprises of well-equipped: Forensic Museum with Skeleton, Models, Weapons and Illustration charts. Toxicology laboratory with various Poisons, Microscopes, Centrifuge machines, Autopsy, and Examination sets.
- To develop a well-organized, well equipped department with all modern teaching facilities to train medical students.
- To produce a doctor who is well informed about Medico-legal responsibilities during the practice of medicine.
- To make them acquire knowledge of the law in relation to medical practice, negligence and ethics.
- To create interest in research in relation to various Medico-legal problems.
