HITEC-IMS arranged a guest lecture on “Healthy Interpersonal Relationships” on the 26th of October 2026 with distinguished guest speaker Brig (Retd) Prof. Dr. Mowaddat Hussain Rana SI (M). He is the Patron of EMDR Pakistan, Board member of EMDR Asia. He is also Member, National Taskforce for Mental Health, The Government of Pakistan; Chairman, the Healing-Triad Pakistan, and member of the WHO’s Committee on Mental Health. Professor Rana has held various academic, clinical and teaching positions including Advisor in Psychiatry and founding Commandant of Armed Forces Institute of Mental Health. He remained the Dean of Faculty of Psychiatry of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan for ten years. The session was informative, interactive, and thoughtfully paced, and it left students with practical insights they could use right away.
Dr. Rana opened by explaining what makes a relationship healthy, whether with family, friends, colleagues, or partners. He emphasized that strong relationships rest on a few essential foundations: mutual respect, honest communication, trust, empathy, and well-defined boundaries. Rather than presenting these as abstract ideals, he broke each one down into everyday behaviors, such as listening without interrupting, expressing disagreement without hostility, and acknowledging another person’s feelings even when we do not share them.
Dr. Rana invited questions throughout, drew on real-life scenarios, and encouraged students to share their own perspectives. The question-and-answer segment was lively, with students asking about managing peer pressure, and balancing personal growth with the demands of maintaining interpersonal relationships.
His delivery was warm and approachable, mixing clear explanations with relatable examples and light humor that kept the audience attentive. The content was grounded in both academic understanding and practical experience, making it relevant to students. We extend our sincere thanks to Brig (Retd) Prof. Dr. Mowaddat Hussain Rana SI (M) for sharing his time and expertise, and we hope to welcome him again for future sessions
