HITEC-IMS Breast Cancer Awareness & Community Outreach – Phase I
As part of HEC Pinkribbon youth leadership program, the Department of Community Medicine, HITEC-IMS, in collaboration with the Department of Surgery, has planned a three-phase breast cancer awareness initiative. The outreach sessions are scheduled for 6, 14, and 21 October.
Phase I executed successfully.
The first session was successfully conducted today at Government Girls High School and College, Taxila. Faculty members from the Department of Community Medicine, a PGT from the Department of Surgery, and students from MBBS, Allied Health Sciences, and Nursing participated in the activity, gaining valuable practical exposure to community-based health education.
Two awareness sessions were conducted:
- 12:00–1:30 PM: Students of Grades 9 and 10, along with their teachers
- 2:00–3:30 PM: Students of Grades 11 and 12
Dr. Asifa, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, discussed the epidemiology and public health significance of breast cancer, including its risk factors and preventive measures. Dr. Johum, Registrar, Department of Surgery, addressed breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment modalities.
The awareness sessions were followed by clinical breast examinations conducted by the surgeon for community members who requested an assessment. The activity provided an opportunity to promote breast cancer awareness, encourage early detection, and strengthen students’ engagement in community-based health initiatives.
As part of Phase II, community outreach activities will be conducted in the adjacent areas of Taxila, including Mohra Malhar.
Phase III will be organized on campus for female staff members of the Medical, Dental, Allied Health Sciences, Hospital, and HIT communities
