Health Awareness visit at Government Special Education Centre, Taxila

The Community Medicine Department organized a health awareness camp at the Government Special Education Centre (GSEC), Taxila, on February 19, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM, in collaboration with the Dental College HITEC-IMS. Dr. Sidra Farooq (Assistant Professor) and Dr. Asifa Afzal (Assistant Professor) conducted informative sessions on personal & hand hygiene, nutrition and students’ mental well-being. A stress management session for the faculty was delivered by Miss Izya (Psychologist). Pamphlets on personal hygiene and handwashing were distributed among students.

As part of the camp, dental screening was conducted. Students requiring further treatment were referred to HITEC-IMS Dental Hospital for free checkups. Free general physical examinations and growth assessments were carried out by Dr. Mohsin and Dr. Omer Farooq. Students with low BMI were referred to HIT Hospital for further evaluation. The initiative was highly appreciated by the students, faculty and staff of GSEC. This activity reinforced the importance of community engagement, allowing young learners to better understand community health challenges.
