Introduction
Community medicine is concerned with specified populations rather than individuals. It plays leading and collaborative roles in the maintenance and improvement of health of the community. The Department of Community Medicine at HITEC-IMS is dedicated towards the promotion of public health through education, research, community based and patient centered advocacy. The subject is being taught from 1st year to 4th year through different modalities including lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, field visits and role plays. Health education sessions at community level are organized to enable the students to bond with the community and appreciate the importance of primary care, disease preventive services and the concept of social accountability.
Objectives
- To educate medical undergraduates in different domains of Community Medicine.
- To create a stimulating environment for the students, faculty and particularly young researcher
- To develop and conduct research on public health issues and disseminate the new knowledge that contributes to health of individuals and communities
- To help develop ethical and professional behavior in medical students according to professional code of conduct.
